But I do want to know how you got those boxes in Val,
did you stamp on them first? cos that way you would get a lot more in there |

there are two solutions around @ hamster. mine and valithors! valithors seems to be more effective for the shipping guy and i dont know yet, how he did it. i suppose he used the extra space my solution leaves and throws boxes in with another side up. this way there can be some more boxes. but i wont calcute because i am too tired |

There is a two foot long plastic boat in the bathtub, the boat is filled with metal nuts and bolts. The boat tips over, dumping the contents into the water. With the nuts and bolts in the water, will the water level in the bathtub rise, fall or stay the same as it was when the nuts and bolts were in the boat? _________________ Keep Smiling! |

i suppose it gets lower. the weight of the nuts and the bolts made the boat get deeper thus raise the water level at the beginning. with the stuff out of the boat, the boat will get higher -> water level shrinks. the bolts IN the water make it go higher, but the nuts r swimming on the water so they dont have an effect anymore.
its lower now |

Nuts swimming on the water? Metal usually sinks in water.. but you're almost right.. _________________ Keep Smiling! |

The water level will lower.
Havings the nuts and bolts in the water will cause the water to rise, but not as much as it would when they were in the boat, because the boat has the bigger surface area so when it is made heavier it displaces more water than the bolts would have on their own. ??
Or I could be wrong and it won't be any different because the extra weight in the boat only causes it to sink in proportion to the weight of the nuts...
hmm, answer two seems best to me. |

Its got nothing to do with the surface area of the boat...
The extra weight in the boat will cause the water level to rise proportional to the weight of the nuts. Whereas when the nuts are in the water, it will rise proportional to the volume of the nuts.
Because the weight of the nuts is equivalent to a volume of water larger than the volume of the nuts, the water level will fall.
