Hi Owthathurts!
Im not sure about the kick backwards thing, I started doing these stretches because I was waking up with a sore back and neck, pulling musles in my sleep somehow, and also hurting myself after using weights. I havnt had any problems since, I highly recommend yoga. It will increase range of movement gradually so I guess it will help in kicking, and leaning backwards, (is that for dodging and weaving?) that will improve as well. |

Hiya Slim
Yes the leaning backwards will help for dodging and being able to bend your body into a bridge shape while standing. In wushu you have to be generally flexible everywhere.
And I think the kick backwards exercise is to help us do the butterfly kicks.
Thanks. |

I just wondered into this topic for the first time and saw this thread and said to mayself , "I gotta' read this one first". I have had a lot of trouble with my lower back tightening up especially when I have been standing.
One of the things that helps me loosen up is to sort of squat down and gently let the vertabrae relax a little at a time by adjusting the curve of my back and how far forward I stretch my hands. I find this really uselfull in a store. I just kind of squat down and inspect something on the bottem shelf.
It's like sometimes I get so tight it is painful to bend over to sit down in the car. |
