In Karate, we have our kiai yell for when we want to add emphasis to our strikes. What is the equivalent of that in some of your styles?

In our particular school of Wing Chun we don't have any. We're just taught proper breathing and the like.

same here, in my kung fu class we dont do any kiais...dunno what its like for other styles though....

No, I think they were his idea. Pretty sure I heard this somewhere, like in a documentary or something.

yeah, our longfist did as well. ha, hey, oi, huuh... (phonetically) there are seven sounds total, each accomplishing a different goal.

Hung Gar has some but not kiai style. It's because breathing adds power (qi and taiji quan style) - every movement with a breathing part has a different type of breathing part - unlike karate where evertything is kiai . . . .

With the exception of the opening & closing bow none of the sounds is used for shouting.
