Yeah, its just semantics, really. He did technically jump, although not very high. So, you could call it jumping, or just skipping. Pretty much the same kick.

Styles: close quarter combat

His style of karate is shotokan so the kick would be called Mae tobi geri.
He also explains it in his DVD's but you can see some of his teachings on youtube.
