I know I'm probably the last person to read the news that Cung Le beat Frank Shamrock last night. It sounded like a good fight according to the write up I read.
Hopefully now all the nay sayers see Le is for real. He stopped Shamrocks take down attempts. And he proved that his "fancy Kick" will work against a game opponent such as Shamrock.
We should wish Frank a speedy recovery since they think his arm is broken from one of Le's kicks.
After posting this I checked another site for news and appently Shamrock will be facing surgery to repair the damage to the broken arm and displaced wrist. |

Tough deal for Shamrock. I missed the fight. That must have been one hell of a kick from Le.

Excellent, excellent fight. If you haven't seen it, you really need to check it out as it definitely lived up to the hype. Hopefully now the Cung Lee bashers will quiet down for a bit- Shanmrock isn't a AAA fighter anymore, but he isn't a no namer who acts as cannon fodder either.
I think two big factors influenced this fight: Lee playing to his strengths and Shamrock not playing enough to his. Shamrock said beforehand that he wanted to change strikes with Lee, and from the looks of it he stuck to that plan too much, not getting in enough take downs and being pitted up against a top notch striker. Lee on the other hand showed his strategy best when he swept Shanmrock but instead of following him to the ground, walked away and let him get back up in a smart (and cool looking) move.

It had to be one of the worst fights that I've ever seen (well, not the complete worst). For one, this "fight" looked more like a sparring match than it did an actual fight.
As far as Le's fancy kicks, none of the fancy ones he used were really effective at all. His spinning kicks didnt do anything, and his side kicks werent much more than a waste of energy on his part. The best ones he had were straight forward roundhouse kicks.
I personally dont think Le proved anything in that fight, other than hes got slightly better striking skills than Frank Shamrock. He may have beaten Frank, but thats because Frank was too stupid and arrogant to play a smart gameplan. Le didnt stop any of Frank's takedowns, because Frank didnt attempt any.
Le's groundskills havent been tested yet, and while he did finally fight a game opponent in shamrock, shamrock basically fought a kickboxing match against him. |

The bits and pieces I saw looked pretty balanced. Other than getting his arm kicked into oblivion, I didn't see much that Shamrock wasn't able to take. Le did have some good leg catches and then leg kick-outs. Those had to suck. However, I would have expected to see more grappling, and was disappointed that there wasn't any, really.
Perhaps the two will schedule a rematch?

Frank also has no ACL, it puts a damper on his shoot.
The side kicks from le look pretty painful to me, if anything good stop kicks.

The side kicks controlled the distance. How'd you like that side kick right into a spinning back fist? Cung Le's skills are basically unmatched when it comes to striking in MMA. Who's tested Lidells ground skills? They can't get him on the ground or if they do he gets up. Cung Le broke Franks arm with a kick! I think that demonstrates that Cung Le knows what he's doing?
