In January my club will be performing aDemo for a Japanese Society. I will eb showing some of the strengh routines with the Chi Shi and other implements like the Kongoken. I will also be performing Sanchin Kata while being hit be bamboo sticks to show the condition of Goju Ryu practioners and the Hard/Soft part of Goju that the body is always hard and soft. I will also be performing Bo Kata. I was just wandering if anyone could give me any tips on performing Demos and preperation for the Demo.

thanks,

Neil

I used to help with many demos in the area I live in. Nothing to special. Usually demos for the town or schools ect. I enjoyed it. Generally I did a peice on knife defence. (awareness and simple disarming moves.)

We had different items in the demos. Breaks, Waza, Kata, Weapons all were in the demos somewhere. We did have a couple that had more emphasis on self defense.

Now I'm to busy with college, kids, work, ect so I don't get to help with many demos anymore.

I'm not shure of the spelling but it sounds like Soshi No Kon Sho.

Ah......you must mean Shushi-no-kon-sho. A very good kata.

The first kata we learn/teach is Shushi-no-kon - in Matayoshi Kobudo, there is no Sho/Dai in this kata, for some strange reason. Blame it on Shimpo Matayoshi

Just remember to make it look effective, performing the throat hooking blocks with extreme effect.

(Oh wait - does 'sho' use throat hooking blocks? Are they something exclusive to Matayoshi style? I cannot remember!!!)

My advice on doing demos and performing in front of others is simple. Pretend your teaching the audience just like your teach in your dojo. (of course you won't break things down to much) Get rid of some energy also before the demo. That way your nerves don't kill you. I eventually liked the response of the auidence. Generally it was always good.

Practice, practice and more practice. Make sure your performance is fluid and make it really look like you know what you are doing. Actually all you have in your list sounds like a pretty comprenshive demo.
