Do Hap Sool is one of the lost Arts from Korea, when the Korean Government tried to get all of the Arts under their control, Do Hap Sool was shut down by the Founder and moved onto an Air Force base in Korea. Only the Military took Do Hap Sool for many years. I studied under the Founder for about 3 years in the early 70's while I was stationed in Korea in the Air Force. It is now just getting started in the United States by the Founder. www.dohapsool.com is the new WEB site.

Thanks

Not only have I heard of it, I had the good fortune of studying under the art's founder in Korea. It is not a compilation art. It was developed by a master street fighter. When not fighting, he would live a solitary life and practice what worked, discarding what didn't. He studied animals, and created forms. Everything he taught had been tested in actual combat. His story is trully incredible, I'm sorry I don't have space to tell more of it. His name is In Hwan Chung. He presented me with my Third Dan rank in 1992.

I was also a student of Do Hap Sool from about 1993 to around 1995. I was about half way to 1st Dan, which is probably 6th or 8th Gup I think? I trained under Ed Coker and another gentlemen named Mark, but I forget his last name now. They were both officers in the Air Force and trained under the founder of the art in Korea when they were stationed there. They then continued to teach it when they were assigned at Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

If anybody knows of any Do Hap Sool schools in Texas, please let me know I doubt any will pop up soon, but I can always hope.

I was a student of Sabunim Chung, the master, founder, and president of DO HAP SOOL assosciation when I was stationed at Osan AB Korea in 1989. DO HAP SOOL is like no other art. The several animal forms, crane, eagle, bear, cat, praying mantis, monkey, tiger, dragon, etc....are all very different from one another. These forms reflect a vast assortment of devastating fluid movements used in real combat situtaions. It has been 17 years ago and I still remember a good majority of the movements from the forms. I would highly recommend DO HAP SOOL, it is fun to learn, yet challenging and very useful. I followed up my Hapkido, TKD, TangSuDo, ShorinRu training days with DO HAP SOOL. In the 90's, I became more aware of close quarters combat, studying Greco-Roman Wrestling / Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The ground game is where it's at OR it is somewhere that you don't wanna be! TRAIN in every aspect of the martial arts, learn, live, and grow.

KNOW THY ENEMY, KNOW THY WEAPON.

I never heard of "Hap Do Sool" and it doesn't have anything to do with DO HAP SOOL whatsoever. DO HAP SOOL translates into "Weapons(DO) of nature or natural(HAP) skill or techniques (SOOL). The DO HAP SOOL art has been around for almost 40 years, and it is derived from one man's way of fighting. Nothing elegant or fancy, just straight forward fast all out how to fight and get it over with. There are no ranks or colored belts, just DANs 1st through ??? 16. Sparring was encouraged everyday between endless hours of training. Sparring with NO gloves or pads, wearing shoes, just like on the street. I learned to wear a mouthpiece real quick. To my knowledge, there are NO books or videos on DO HAP SOOL, nor would you really learn exactly from them and what the movements meant even if they were available (in slow motion).

HapDoSool is a traditional art developed by combining TKD, Judo, Aikido and Jujutsu. DoHapSool is something different as described above.

I once asked my Master how Grandmaster could have spent 4 years in the mountains, and he told me that it was over a period of 4 years that he would train in the mountains and work on techniques. Then he would go to towns to test if they worked or not. If they didn't he would go back and perfect them.

Oh and HapDoSool means "all martial arts techniques"

Very interesting. I don't think I have ever heard of these styles before. Thanks for sharing, and welcome to KF!
