It varies depending on how I'm training in the kata. When I'm working on it's effectivness, I'll visualize each movement as if I'm actually blocking or striking. Other times I'm checking form and footwork. But when I'm actually performing the kata as opposed to training with the kata, I've gotta completely empty. I trust my body to do what it's supposed to. If I think about it, I usually wind up too distracted to perform to the best of my ability.
