Hmm, dunno if this is relevant but it sounds as if you are describing a Naha-te style okinawan punch...and i mean the proper Naha-te style, not the modern offshoots. You can read more about it in Kiyoshi Arakaki's book 'the secrets of okinawan karate: essence and techniques'.
