Well, I've been doing Freestyle Karate for just over 3 months now and was wondering what peoples views on it are? Is it a good MA to start, I'm really into the sparring part of it all. _________________ Willing - Believing - Achieving

I say if you are enjoying it, then it is great for you. I am not sure what the sparring in the style is all about, so I can't offer much there. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

the sparring really reminds me of kickboxing on the continous, but not in a ring, and only light contact
and not sure what to describe the points as _________________ Willing - Believing - Achieving

for the points... do they just have judges that score what they see through a timed round.... or do you fight till the judge says stop, then they judges call a point, and u begin fighting again?
my guess is the first? _________________ Brown belt... win trophies... grade... lose trophies... so much fun |

in points its stopped when contact is made. and 2 outta 3 judges must say 1 person to hit it for a point to be added.
Normal hit - 1 point
kick to the face - usually 2 points
hit with style - 2 points
kick to the head with style - 3 points
keep in mind, i dnt tend to do much points, so that might be slightly wrong _________________ Willing - Believing - Achieving

It's hard to say without seeing the school, particularly because "Freestyle" can open it up to mean just about anything.
If you are learning something, keeping active and enjoying it, it can't be too bad. _________________ The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. |

I used to do freestyle, but stopped when the instructor left and her replacement turned it into a McDojo
But if you like it keep doing it! _________________ "...to stand between the candle and the shining moon..." |
