You are right, but to say that Ali's current condition is a result of his fighting career or not is hard to say. I have not heard if it is. There are many other great champions out there that do not suffer from the same condition that Ali does.

and there are plenty of non boxers that do have the same condition. i beleive its parkinsons.
Michael J fox has it and i dont recall him getting his head punched in. _________________ Now you use head for something other than target. |

I don't think Ali has Parkinsons'. I think it is MS, or something like that. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

According to the article on Wikipedia, Ali was diagnosed with "pugilistic Parkinson's Syndrome." He was diagnosed in 1984 and there is some debate among physicians as to whether this is the correct diagnosis. Either way, the current diagnosis suggests that his PD is caused by, "multiple dazing blows to the head."
Hope that helps. _________________ "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

Think about this; he was one of the more ellusive heavyweights as well.
Even though, I don't see a lot of other fighter suffering from the same condition. I think George Foreman was known more for being able to take a punch, and probably absorbed a lot more punishment than Ali did over his career. It just affects different people differently. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

I love George Foreman! He'd give that lowlife Tyson what for! Then he'd make everyone delicious and low fat snacks on his George Foreman grill! _________________ Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

| thinking of boxing I think of the bobbing, weaving, foot work, cominations, diffrent set ups. I found boxing very intersting. I just don't like getting hit. So I prefer grappling. |

That is the one thing that Boxing does teach you to deal with well. You can, and will, be hit. I think it helps to develop determination and drive to resist. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

No doubt! This was a total shock to me when I started training BJJ and MMA. I always believed that my Karate skills would keep me from getting hit very often while standing. That was foolish. Now, though, I'm in the process of using the Karate tactics and footwork in MMA and doing a good job of it as well. Aside from my instructors... I can hold my own against most of the guys in the class.
Just to avoid misrepresenting myself...I do NOT fight in MMA bouts....just practice the sport in classes. If I ever fought in an MMA bout I'd be more worried about what my wife does to me when I get home than what the guy in the ring is doing _________________ "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

I hear ya, ps1. I don't know that I would care to step into a ring and fight MMA, but I would sure give the training a try. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

so what kind of Karate tatics and foot work you are using? I know you come from a Chuan fa, shotokan background. I am curious on the spefics.
I faught mma matches before 3 of them. I ended up 1-2. With the 2 I lost I wasn't totally confident in my ground skills and my karate training wasn't up to par. I really just did them because I was afraid and I wanted to say I went in there despite of it.
My last fight was in Aug/2007. That one I wanted to win. It went good for me. However I still don't like getting hit, and I don't like cutting weight. Especially Sauna part afterwards. Were I don't drink any water. Even after all that I still don't consdier my self a fighter. I tried it out, it was fun at the time. However I still wouldn't say I am fighter.
I prefer BJJ right now, mostly I have been doing nogi, and started working more on my wrestling take downs. |
