this intirgues me, in particular the phrases that i've high-lighted.
could you tell me more about these forms and their origins? In particular, what do you know about the "shouting crane" and do you know anything that might be translated into "sleeping crane" and "feeding crane" and a few other similarly phrased terms?

i am not an expert but this is what i know
Five Ancestoral fist is a diviation of old aimal styles of kongfu created by 5 masters of southern shaolin temple, one of the animals was crane
Fang qiniang created her crane style based on his father style of 18 monks kongfu and her interpretation of crane movment this is yungchun Hi quan
another off shhot is ancestral crane also known as sleeping crane
another is shouting crane or whooping crane with katas like Hopporen and Nepai
i refer you to "karate Bubishi" translated by patrick Mccarthy, he is intrested in crane styles so he added some extra material about different crane style,
other refrence is Mr. Lindsey (Bastrop Texas) the katas i mentioned are the ones i learned through Mr Lindsey lineage, thats why you see a mixture of different crane styles,
if you pass Houston Let me know, we can go over one kata together,

Well, its a kata, its no big deal. All i can say is that if Bushi made it that just one more thing he made. Its not like he wanted to keep it secret or something. But the big deal about it is that supposedly only Fusei Kise knows this kata.

what or who is this fuse kisei?

Kisei Fuse is the 10th Dan in charge of Seito Shorin Ryu Karate. He is pretty well known and well respected in the MA community.

i might have misread your original post.
do you practice all of these forms or do you just know of their existance?

i ask because i am quite surprised that many of them, in particular the ones i high-lighted are clearly chinese (named) forms.
i was just wondering what differences there were between the original chinese version and the ones that now exist in the japanese/okinawan schools.

the one that really surprised me is seeing Shouting crane" as it is similar to the the names of forms within one white crane school that i know but it isn't actually one of the forms (if that makes any sense).

these are mix chinese and okinawan, but even the original chinese may be slightly different from what we practice , for example Ni Ju Ken doesn't have kicks in original form but we do one toe kick in each step,
all the kata with Hakutsuru name as part of them are from matsumura family
Rokishu, i don't practice, probebly chinese
Chorinji chinto is okinawan i don't practice
Hakutsuru Mei is okinawan I practice this(short version of Hakutsuru kata)
paihok is chinese we practice (has simultaniuse strike to eyes and groin)
Hi tsuru ken is okinawan we practice (this is a complicated and long kata)
Sho tsuru ken is okinawan we practice ( teach us to hit using body momentum)
Tsuru sanchin is okinawan we practice (teach us to estend the penetration by turning from natural stance to sanchin dachi)
Shorinhji sanchin is probebly chinese we practice (uses yang hand for blocking)

Pachu is from Ryuei Ryu, so it is a dragon system kata, however it is based on a crane kata. It's very quick and powerful. I love this kata.

And I do have a clip of our chief instructor, Doshu Mertz, performing Haku Cho. He actually made DVD's of all the katas and gave them to the Yudansha before he left for Iraq.
