Recently somewhere else I was reading someones question about doing a breaking demonstration. It seems as long as they said they had been a black belt they had never done any breaking. So a bit mystified by this I ask in your schools isn't some sort of breaking required for advancement to black belt rank?

Really? Wow? I had to do a straight punch, hammerfist, and elbow break for mine. Not to mention the foot break.

I am still a bit blown away that not all schools require breaking for black belt.

Breaking is IMHO a way of taking off stress. Havent you ever seen karate kid 2? "Can you break a log like that?" said Ralph Macio. "Don't know, never been attacked by a tree!" said Mr. Morita

One could condition themselves to break without ever having learned any martial art.
Breaking is not a good measure of skill at all.
Bruce Lee said "Boards dont fight back"
How true.

Anonymous is right.
They say that a board is as strong as a rib, but when a person is moving it is a little harder to hit those ribs.
What i am getting at is that breaking boards in one spot is like jabbing someone while their down and trying to show off strength. Not really a great martial art attitude.
