> Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there.

They do this by masking carbon dioxide, which attracts parasitical insects.

> Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.

The Victorians used to use urine instead of toothpaste, and apparently it was reasonably effective.

> Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.

More people ride donkeys than planes.

> You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.

People often move in their sleep, and engage in a lot of brain activity which, despite many people's beliefs, does burn off energy. In front of the tv people don't seem to move much, or think.

> The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley's gum.

The first chewing gum was made from either rubber tree sap or whale fat.

> The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache

There is also only one one-eyed king, but two one-eyed jacks.

> Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning.

But coffee tastes so much better.

> Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin.

Most dust particles anywhere are made from dead organic matter, since that's what dust usually is except for industrial or construction dust. Since your body is also entirely covered with dead skin, surely dust can't be particularly harmful?

> The first owner of the Marlboro Company died of lung cancer.

Poetic justice.

> Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.

The woman who invented the Barbie doll did so because her daughter had only 'baby' dolls to play with. She also suffered breast cancer and developed a range of false breast replacements called 'nearly there'.

> All US Presidents have worn glasses. Some just didn't like being seen wearing them in public.

Having blue eyes increases popularity by seven points in most elections in the western world.

> Pearls melt in vinegar.

So do silicon chips, unless specially treated.

> The three most valuable brand names on earth: Marlboro, Coca Cola, and Budweiser, in that order.

Budweiser? Who could stand to drink that stuff willingly? Eight litres of coca cola within several hours is usually fatal.

> It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs.

Same with wild horses.

> A duck's quack doesn't echo and no one knows why.

The most recent theory is that its to do with inteference patterns, the sound cancelling itself out. Why this should be though no one quite knows, and no one has yet done any real research into the area.

> The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases.

Getting them down afterwards was extremely difficult.
