Me and my younger brother, who is about 5'10" and weighs 300 some pounds decided to change our sparring rules one time. We allowed head contact with the hands (light contact, acknowledging good hits), and we decided to allow throws and takedowns. I am 5'7", and 245, so I aint gonna wrestle this boy too much.
Anywho, we go along, and I get pretty good shots with some head kicks, and some high hand strikes. He gets good hand strikes, and believe me, he can kick, too. I got taken down a few times, so we were pretty even. Well, I am going along, and I get to chasing him with a combo, and end up with my right leg set behind his right leg, and I had my hips low, and my right arm around his chest. So, I try to hip throw the guy.....very bad idea!!!! I tried to push once, then another time, then I looked at him, and he smiled, like this: , then proceeded to hip toss me about 5 feet in the direction of his choice!
In the end, I gave him the match, and we had a good laugh about the whole thing.
Does anyone else have any good natured, laugh-at-yourself sparring stories like this one? Share 'em, if you like!
I'm very scared, I'm yor height but a 100 pounds |

My best moments
12 years ago European cup qualifiers with national TV was there and all. The national coach watching my match as was the president of the federation . So of course I wanted to impress them. I launched into combination which ended with a mawashi-geri to the head which I did perfectly except… I spilt my pants straight down the middle which got a huge laugh from the crowd because I did not notice right away that my attributes were on TV. Worse yet the ref made us stop and I had no spares with me so my sensei who was competing in the next weight category loaned me his and stood there with no pants waiting for me to finish so he could go to his next fight.
By this all the attention was on my match and it is very hard to concentrate considering there is man with no pants standing next to your mat.
So we start over where we left off 30 seconds later my opponent launches mae geri I blosk and counter with gyaku tsuki to the the plexus… I got him good so good he coughed of up is toot guard and it went down the front of my gi.
It was the first time of life that my opponent the ref and and many other people were on the floor with a single hit

I don't know how funny this story is, but my team mates certainly had a good laugh.
I was at a small inter-club team sparring competition, and was drawn against a very small lady, who cannot have been much over 5ft. I'm 6'4", and was not at all sure how to handle myself given the size and gender differences. I therefore sort of stood there looking kind of baffled, not wanting to hurt this delicate flower- who promptly delivered a swift front kick to my chin. I should at this point mention I have a nervous habit of chewing my lip, which promptly split on the impact, leaving me looking thoroughly bloodied and beaten.
An impressive number of lessons all learned at once. |

Hmm, i was not paying attention and 2 of my buds pounced on me at one! It was bad.We were supposed to be sparring, but they didn't get the message. So The three of us ended up in a three way tie! My Sensei had to come over and "Kick us apart. " The skinniest of us, had happened to have ripped his pants in the process. While the other suffered a groin shot. I don't know if i did it or not, but the sensei's reaction was classic. Pushups: 500. It's not the funniest story, but it is funny. _________________ "Never leave that to tomorrow for which you can do today." -Ben. Frank. |

When I was a green belt (or maybe orange) I was sparring with a new white belt. Well, not really sparring but shoulder touching since he was so new. Somehow while backing up I slipped and fell flat on my back. Sensei came over and congradulated the bewildered white belt on downing me without touching me. _________________ External training without the training of the mind is nothing |

Ok, how come I didn't see this thread?
Anyways, my funniest sparring moment was when I lost my pants ... yes it's true. I posted this somewhere else on KF, but it's funny, so I'll do it again.
It was sparring night. We would spar then change partners. Then spar again. We kept going until everyone sparred everyone. Well I sparred this one kid. He's about half my age. Quick little bugger. But I got a few good shots on him ..... except when I went to kick him in the head or something. He moved in and I stepped back ... problem was ... his foot was on my pant leg and I moved. Down they went.
I yanked them up and kept going. But my instructor saw it. He said, "You can stop to fix your "equipment" ya know." I just turned red. _________________ Laurie S.
