After hearing about Patrick Swayze and his battle with pancreatic cancer, it really got me thinking. man, as far as it seems, he lived an overall healthy lifestyle. He definitely looked like he was in shape, obviously he was not obese, i don't know whether or not he smoked but I never heard of him drinking excessivly and obviously he was active. Yet despite the fact that that would make him in a low risk group for such a killer disease he ended up with it. It's kind of scary to me because when you think about it, no matter how much you eat right and work out, you may still end up dead before your time. I try to watch what i eat, don't smoke and work out as much as I can and sometimes I wonder if it will really make a difference at all. _________________ "You know the best thing about pain? It is kind of freaky. You hear about famous athletes all the time that come down with some strange thing like this, and it takes them right away, and you know they were healthy overall. Basketball and football players collapsing on the fields. I think that something wierd took Jackie Joyner-Kersey as well, a famous Olympic track athelte. (I hope that is the right name...)
However, we should not look at these examples as reasons to not stay healthy and active, and proactive when it comes to screening for diseases such as these. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

Just hard to tell, really. Scary to think about, so try not to dwell on such things. I know that a lot of people worry about caner and things like that. I try not to. Who knows what can happen? I work a job that puts my life in jeapardy every day. Cancer is just not something I spend time worriying too much about. I don't ignore, it, either. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

Well, I heard that was a heavy smoker, but a spokesman said he smoked on an off over a period of years so who knows? _________________ "You know the best thing about pain? It let's you know you're not dead yet!" |

That may be, but smoking would be linked more to lung cancer than pancreatic, I would think. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

It is really sad. I try not to worry about cancer but it is almost as common now as a cold to me. Everyone around me has had or died from it or scared with it (meaning thought may have it but did not).
As for smoking well I have heard second hand smoke is just as bad as smoking your self. I do not no if it true but I have heard that several times. |

Yes, second hand smoke is dangerous in fact it has been said that it is even more so. One reason why I can't stand to be around smokers. If you want to kill yourself, fine, but don't take me with you.
Bushido_man, Smoking may seem to be more directly related to lung cancer, but can cause all types including throat, pancreatic, mouth, etc.. _________________ "You know the best thing about pain? It let's you know you're not dead yet!" |

I guess that is true. It seems to spread to the strangest places. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

My mother has had two heart attacks and she STILL smokes....me, i think she's crazy!
As for Patrick Swayze i really like him as an actor, especially his earlier movies. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. _________________ Walk away and your always a winner. www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk |
