Was Ray Dalke the first American to make a black belt under Gichin Funakoshi? I think he was just checking my info here.

I don't know if he was the first or not though. Master Ohshima taught the first Karate class in the US in 1956 but I don't know when he promoted the first non-Japanese student to Shodan.

| I know Dalke is the highest ranked American according to the AJKA. Just figured he was the first. My Sensei Howie Harvey tested under him for his Dan. |

Hello Everyone,
Ray Dalke made his Blackbelt under Nishiyama Sensei in California. He also taught Chuck Norris how to incorporate his hands into his Tang Soo Do.
