Excellent post! I agree with everything that has been said above.
I'd add that one factor that many people don't take into account is mindset. This is almost a bigger factor that skill in some cases. The fact is, a violent individual intent on doing you harm has already set his m ind on a course of action and is not restrained by feelings of compassion or worry of legalities.
Too many martail artist, while excellet technicians, don't train thier mind set to be that of a warrior. Real violence therefore frightens them and makes them less effective. Mindset training is, to me, at least as important as skill building and often overlooked. |
