Yes, it's actually torture but it's supposed to improve your hip flexibility.

For me, it doesn't affect my knees much but my main pain is from the thighs

Really it's effective... I am not doing 30 minutes for sure but I am doing 5-9 minutes nearly every day and I can say I really felt a difference espicially with my high kicks.. I would recommend trying it
