It's been 8 weeks since my knee surgery, and my 4th week of therapy, and my knee still hurts! It's frustrating, my mind wants to get back to classes, and my knee is still saying "are you nuts?!" I can barely do the basic moves without pain, and they hurt if I try to add much power. It stinks! I thought I'd be back at it by now, but my knee is not being accomodating. I am still having difficulty with any kind of movements with the knee bent, it screeches about any kind of moves like stepping down a step with my good leg leading, the bad one being bent with my weight though it as I step down makes it scream, for example. Grrrr.....I guess it just needs more time.

I guess that shaving articular cartilage must be a pretty significant thing as knee parts go, this's been taking so much longer to recover than my other 4 knee surgeries. (this was #5)

It's so hard to be patient...

Do a workout in your chair. Make sure you have plenty of room around you, and execute every hand technique that you know of at least 20 times, while seated. You won't get to use your legs and hips as much, so it will develop power through your arms and upper body. Try that, and do it for as long as you are shut down. Once that gets easy for you, progress holding dumbells, starting with 5lbs, and working your way up the weight.

Then, see what your hand technqiues are like when you get back to being healthy.

I know what you mean! I got an extremely severe case of Mono which ended with me up in the hospital for 5 days (don't recommend Japanese hospitals in case you were thinking of going). I've finally gotten over it in the past couple of days- but I can't engage in contact sports until April due to risk of internal organ rupture and other such awesomeness. My Judo training has been so fractured, that it has been extremely difficult to progress. In fact, I'll probably be set back almost to square one once I get back. It stinks not to be able to train.

You have it a bit harder though in that your movement is limited. see if you can work on upper body stuff. Any kind of exercise will help curb the cravings of the drug known as martial arts

Its all about time, time will heal it. For now you need to do as little as possible and in small doses untill you can cope with it.
