| Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I took karate a couple years ago in college, and in one of the training sessions, our instructor had us lie down and he walked on our stomachs. Has anyone else experienced this type of training in their martial arts class? If so, do you know what purpose it serves? I thought it was to condition our stomachs and truly I don't think it is a bad exercise if the instructor is careful. One thing I will mention is that it seems like female instructors would be more effective in this type of training because they tend to be lighter and are less likely to cause injury. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks. |

yes, thats done at my studio sometimes. usually its done when a person is lying on the floor with their legs together three to four inches off the ground with their hands under their butt or lower back. that in itself it an ab exercise, the stepping on stomachs is to make sure youre stretching properly and if you are you should be able to withstand substantial weight on your abdomen. so theres that, and its also just kind of one of those old school things that have stuck! _________________ "Smile. | One of the instructors where I train, does it occasionally. Just like NewEnglands said, it was done during a 6 " leg raise. |

My older brother used to walk on my stomach. The last stomach conditioning I had was repetetive straight punches to the stomach. _________________ There is little honor in going down. There is no honor in going down without a fight. --- Victory dwells in the individual, not the style.

We used to stand in a circle and throw those weighted balls at eachothers stomachs. The weight of the ball was dependant on the age/size of the student. _________________ "Why do people think success is how high and fast you reach the top?
