Ok, I know all the fight scenes in the films are staged, I've been involved in some myself in small independent productions, but who do you think would be "real and able to defend and win in a real fight"? Now we know Bruce Lee would have so he's out. How about Chuck Norris and the others on Walker Texas Ranger?, How about the following;
Jackie Chan? Sammo Hung? Segal? Van Damn? David Carradine?
Thanks for your opinions here.

Jackie Chan? Id say hes pretty good but the stuff he does in films would neve work in real life.

Sammo Hung? Don't know that name sorry.

Segal? The one you don't want to mess with. I have read every blackbelt test he gives someone gets hurt.

Van Damn? would be lucky to beat up Carradine. LOL..... All Fake and tricks. 0-33 and a kickboxer.

David Carradine? Fake stole the part from Bruce Lee for Kung Fu no Martial Arts training.

Others

Norris was a national champ I would not mess with him.

Blanks was a national champ don't mess with him either.

Jet Li don't know anything about him. However based on what you see him do I figure he has a lot of film help.

Don Wilson another national champ

Pat Morrittia (SP) aka Mr, Miggaie (sp) no clue

David Carradine is one of the slowest people I've ever seen. No threat there.

Althogh Jean Claude Van Damme isnt the best martial artist, I think he could hold his own in a street fight. He used to have a job as a bouncer. Thats how he got discovered for movies. He beat the crap out of a movie executive, lol.

Jackie Chan would probably be someone that could definately fight if he had to. His american movies are all flashy and stuff, but he has a lot of useful martial arts talent that can be seen in his old movies.

I dont know about Jet Li. He's a wushu stylist. He has said (on his official website) that he sees no point in training for combat because he thinks its pointless in today's society, so he chose wushu.

Sammo Hung is in the same boat as Jackie Chan. He and Jackie trained together.

I have no doubts in Steven Segals fighting ability. I cant stand him though! Theres a huge list of reasons behind this. lol

Mark Dacascos could undoubtedly fight with speed and power. His father, Al Dacascos, founded Wun Hop Kuen Do, and still teaches in Portland, Oregon, I think.

Chuck Norris - was once actually the US karate champion, so he was a decent fighter. There is also a court transcription where he was called as an expert witness, and was repeatedly able to kick an opponent from several metres away before the other could raise and fire an (unloaded) gun held his hand. He maybe a bit out of shape now, but still...don't judge his real martial arts skill by his acting...

Jackie Chan - Well we know that at least he can take a beating! Not sure about any real fight strategy...

Segal - possibly. I think he was a real martial artist before he got carried away with all the Hollywood rubbish. I'm sure he's not as good as he is in his own head though...

Van Damn - now exposed as the "ballet dancer from Brussels"... probably not.

David Carradine - not even close.

Segal is a blackbelt in judo, karate, aikido, kendo, he was also the first westerner to open a martial arts school in japan.
he was also allegedly a bounty hunter and was thought to have involvement with the CIA.

i think he could hold his own with anyone in a street fight.

- "Segal is a blackbelt in judo, karate, aikido, kendo, he was also the first westerner to open a martial arts school in japan. "

No problem with that, although I have heard stories about some of his ranks being "inflated"... I can't verify that one way or the other... I will accept that he's very proficient at what he does.

- "he was also allegedly a bounty hunter and was thought to have involvement with the CIA."

This is the stuff I have a problem with. I'm pretty sure most of it has been disproven as Hollywood hokum. Certainly, as many people have pointed out, if you're really a "CIA secret agent" you don't tell ANYBODY about it.

I remember GQ magazine ran an interview with Seagal, about 10 years ago, that painted him in a rather bad light, making him look extremely vain, arrogant and self-centred. In real life he wasn't the ego-less Buddhist he'd like you to believe. More like Count Dante, except even fussier about his hair...

Also he was surrounded by enormous body guards, which sort of makes a mockery of the whole "master of self-defense" thing. Or am I the only one who finds that ironic?
