Horseman's Form is a bo kata designed to deal with men on horses. It comes from the Burmese martial art Bando. Some of the Isshinryu senseis are friends with the Bando senseis and hold competitions together, so we learn that kata.
BTW, I've been reading every msg too. I know absolutely nothing about most of the styles on here, so this is the perfect place to learn.
Yesterday:
20 front kicks
20 side kicks
Seisan
went to Aiki J-J class (Noticed a bit of improvement!)
Today I'm going to balance homework with working out:
2 pg's of h/w
10 pushups, situps, squats
1 kata
2 pg's h/w
same as above and etc. _________________ Chikara

I have noticed that most of us are into pure calisthenics. Of course, that does make the kata and kumite part easier.

Yeah, thanks. I had gotten used to the other one so it was surprising.
As for the cals- yeah, they can be a great asset. anything that ttrains as much of the body in a coordinated fashion at once is ideal. |

Thanks for the information on the horseman's form. I have heard of Bando, but don't know much about it, other than the name. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

I suppose you could compare Bando to Pencak Silat, they include empty handed stuff, weapon stuff (both old and new weapons), knife fighting, and stick fighting. I don't know anything about it except what they have and that 1 bo kata. _________________ Chikara

This observation makes me think of all the cardio-kickboxing classes and DVDs that people attend/use. I attended a few cardio-kickboxing classes locally, but the hour-long sessions were too draining on me. A half-hour would have been plenty for me, and the reason I took them was to supplement my MA training. I purchased a DVD that contains several ten-minute workouts, targeting different areas of the body. I can fit them into my schedule much more easily, and can also replay the same one more than one time (such as the "core" workout for the midsection) to concentrate on a specific area.
I like having this as a supplement to my training; it's healthy exercise. _________________ ~ Joe |

That dvd exercising is an excellent idea! I forgot about adding that to my daily routine. Thanks for that Joe!
Um... didn't actually do anything at all today, wasn't able to. Mom hyper extended her shoulder and has to get injections of Cortisone (sp?) or it won't get better. So, things a little crazy right now. _________________ Chikara
