Hi,
New member here. This board came highly recommended.
Just wondering what yall thought about brazillian jujustu versus traditional martial arts. Personally, I always thought grappling had a few tools to offer but was highly undesireable for real life situations. Sure, it's okay in the Ultimate Fighting Challenge, where they have a billion rules to keep things safe. But the way I see it, if someone rushes me for a grappling match in the streets, there aint much to keep me from circling up and closing the deal with a good ol' eagle claw or sidekick.
Anyway, I just came across a picture of some Ultimate Fighting that not only gave me a few chuckles but pretty much sums up my impression of brazillian jujustu and ultimate fighting:
Tight shorts, sweaty men, and a whole lotta grab@ss!!!
Sincerely,
BISON |

Funny Picture. The dude on the bottom looks like he 's constipated.
I feel that all of the arts have value and should not be written off because of a marketing campaign put on by the Gracies. Moreover, it is the person behind the art, not the other way around. Everyone wants and needs something different. The TMA's wouldn't have survived this long if they didn't contain effective techniques.
In regard to the UFC and BJJ, I feel that BJJ is a good style, but I don't feel that it is unbeatable. I was bored to tears by watching Royce Gracie have some other guy lay on top of him for twenty minutes. To each his own. _________________ Welcome to McDojo's! LOL, nice picture.
As a practioner of BJJ, I think it's a great sport, otherwise I wouldn't train.
I do believe that anybody who's training for self defense should learn some ground work, just to be comfortable on the ground incase they go there and don't lose it. With all the hype of BJJ, it wouldn't surprise me if someone decided shoot on you in the street. There are some situations where I would take it to the ground, such as at a party where I know everyone there and I know no one will kick me in the back/head - I've got my mates as back up as well. _________________ There are always two choices, two paths. Remember above all: Denial is not a river in Egypt...
Oh, that is so old....
Seriously, grappling is a great skill and, IMO, needed to help make a well rounded martial artist. Knowing groundwork, counters, escapes, joint locks, etc. can be just as invaluable as a good sidekick. In a real life situation you never know what skill you may need until you are there. Don't write off a style because of the hype. _________________ I had to lose my mind to come to my senses. |

| i have lots of respect for BJJ id love to train in it, the only tihng i dont like about it are the close minded BJJers that think everything else part from BJJ and mauy thai arent effective. |
