hello again ... few comments on already given hints:

* "always protect your ribs with your forearms...another variant of the "keep your hands up" message that gets screamed at you frequently." ... when we teach we usually tell students to keep their elbows in, rather than to look like a chicken.. by doing this you inevitably cover your ribs... and the forearms 'should' be further out so it looks like you're holding a rifle.. it's more intimidating.

* "Well - I was told this in class just recently when learning a new technique..."NO FEAR!!!" and I'm sure Angus will agree with me on that one " I would LOVE a hint on how to have no fear...

* "If attacked by more than one person, keep them lined up so they can't get behind you and if you kick them they go flying into each other. " and would love hints on how to do that... that would be IDEAL .. however... a hint stemming from that is ... most people forget that self defence has the element of 'PREVENTION'.. so be AWARE of your surroundings, have body language that is not one of a victim (ie. stand up confident - fake it if you have too, don't count money in front of people, etc etc) and trust your INSTINCTS (especially females)

* "Don't fight ugly people. They have nothing to lose." LOL they could be the ugly duckling and have 'good looking' people in their family to lose... ugly people still have egos.. and a LOT of people hate losing face.

* "Don't be like you don't feel like doing it!!!smaile when he walks by!!!" I think this one is the same as 'Act confident even if you have to fake it' because attackers choose their victims.. and victims are chosen because they're easy to attack; those that are confident are less likely to be attacked then those that look at the ground all the time etc.

* "Ok, don't look at your opponent in there eyes cause you will not see anything els. Look past there eyes as if they are see thourght and do not STARE them in the eyes. Sounds weird but it is said but a great fighter. gota turst the man."
if you look at an opponent in the eyes you CAN see the rest of your body through periferal vision (however it is spelt).. the eyes are the first place where you can see an emotional/mental change in a person.. especially those that are under the influence... as some say.. it's the window to the soul... I don't know what 'great fighter' it was.. but they must have had great reflexes to compensate.

* "never kiss a cat it migh have loose hair!!" and their tongues are like sand paper!

* "never go somewhere where you don't know the language!" have to say that I strongly agree with this one ... for MANY reasons.. having gone to Japan in '98 for 3 months without knowing any to begin with.. it was THE best experience.. you'd be surprised how much you can get out of gestures and body/facial expressions

ummmm don't know what I can say for a hint.. have put a couple in there

but I would like to emphasize the 'PREVENTION' part of self defences.. which I assume is one reason why the majority of people do Martial Arts.. and this aspect is LARGELY forgotten... bit unfortunate really

hrmmm

HINT: if there is an 'intruder' outside the house, stay inside. If they get inside the house, get out (don't try and be a hero). If there's family in the house ,all the more reason to get out and get help.. otherwise you could be held in there for weeks. By the attempt of being a hero inside the house you could inevitably get yourself and family/friends hurt.

That'll do..

REALLY sorry for the long post ...just needed to get that out
