Almost any half-serious martial artist will beat up someone who does sport tkd. Sport tkd is sport - not geared towards actual real fighting.

I do "so called" sport TKD (WTF) But My school isn't like most "sport TKD" schools. We actually teach self defense So am I going to get beat up? Hmmmm speak for yourself

OMG how many times must I say this!! sport taekwondo is but a small part of taekwondo!!! its is not the all encompassing aspect of my art which I have been doing since 1979!! for those of you who make a generalization of taekwondo based on what you have seen in sport taekwondo..you are seriously missing the big picture of this beautiful art..ive said it before and again now..sport taekwondo is but the "tip of the iceberg".!!!not even the real practical side of this korean martial art!!

No one is saying that Tae Kwan Do is only a sport. They're saying that people who do only sport TKD would not stand up to a real MA. Nothing at all was said about TKD in general.

NO MARTIAL ART IS BETTER THAN ANOTHER

It all depends on the method of training on the part of the martial artist. I have met plenty of TKD guys that can scrap pretty good, and Kung Fu guys as well. All martial arts possesses the same knowledge such as a side kick, punch, roundhouse kick, spinning hook kick etc. the only differance is that they may have different names.
The way a martial artist trains will be the determaning factor in wether or not he/she will be able to survive a street confrontation.

Try not to focus so much on whats better, but focus instead on how to better yourself.

Hasta!!

Yup exactly. If you are doing sport tkd 'plus' some self-defense, then you can't credit your self-defense taekwondo training with being 'sport tkd'. Just because you go to a school that emphasizes sport doesn't mean that your instructor(s) won't show you some self-defense. Sure, that self-defense may be practical, but it's not sport tkd. Anything that is meant for self-defense and real life is not sport. The word 'sport' contradicts anything that would mean practical self-defense or real-life combat. Sport insinuates having rules, and in real life you cannot afford to give yourself rules when your existence is in danger.

wouldnt you think that by classifying a type of tkd, sport tkd, sort of puts it down a little?

That would be like saying that sport judo or sport karate puts down karate or judo as a whole art. Well I guess there are some people who think that sport karate and point-fighting karate matches shame traditional karate *shrug*
