Which is Better?
A man with a sword, who can use it very well?
or
A man with a gun, yet has no idea how to use it?
Don't forget, martial arts were designed by human beings, they all have positives, they all have negatives. Those people innovated a style which suited them, thus it depends on you as an individual how far each style may take you.
for example,
A short, stocky person, with small legs, will find tae-kwon-do useful only up to a certain point.
However, were he to do boxing or wing chun he may attain a level beyond that point. He would learn techniques better suited to his body size (the same for a woman - as Wing Chun was designed by a woman)
The same goes for a person with longer, more flexible legs: a martial arts involving higher, more mobile kicks may help him progress better than one that concentrates on punching techniques or close quarter combat.
Anyway, to really judge between the martial arts, you must bring together the 'best' of each style (i.e. what would relate to be the same degree) and then allow them to fight each other - the only disadvantage being, that serious injury would be very likely (martial arts are mainly learnt to defend yourself and to get rid of your opponent as efficiently as possible).
I hope I haven't offended anyone or expressed my opinion without proper knowledge. If so, accept my apology and state your qualms.
Thank you. |

the problem is, there is no way you can really find a way to compare 2 people who's better.
a lot of factors come into play even though both of them have just got their BBs. for example, how much they've trained, their mental status, experience, blah blah blah.
that's why seeing 2 guys fight and say the MA of the one who won is more superior is not always logical. the person won, not the MA.

| I would say TKD is more of a hobby art. It has all the fancy kicks wen you sparr. But none of the kicks go above your waist line wen it is used in self defense. |

nice to see this forum isnt dead after all,
all nice to see a seperate section for art vs art
even though it is ironic how i remember how some of the moderators condemened my actions for making a comparing forum and closing it several times that eventually they set up a whole seperate section for comparing arts, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............. _________________ Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung Fu

| Okay, i would like to try to make one thing very clear, it is my belief that the taekwondo that people are putting down is the VERY Americanized tkd. the Koreans werent stupid when they were developing this art, many high level techniques are very similar to certain styles of kung fu and karate. the Americanized taekwondo is a big drop from what taekwondo used to be, as for real combat, i think that sport taekwondo is almost a joke... i.e. no punches to the head. a lot of the people i spar leave their head wide open, but then again, they are also point sparring at that time, and they know that punches to the head arent allowed. my point is, dont judge the system of taekwondo just by its weak american counterpart |

man, tkd is alright. but i like kung fu better, there are more types and i believe they are more profound in terms complexity. But tkd is good, its got alot of usefull techniques and that but many dojangs today put emphasis on training for competitions and that so its quality is is seriously being downgraded. if a kung fu and tkd guy fought i'd go for the kung fu guy.
and for those people that said the style doesn't matter, the practitioner does. i really have to disagree with you, while i do believe that the practition is important i also think that style plays a big role. some styles just weren't created equal, some are better, some are worse. its like saying all the fighter planes are the same and its the pilot thats matters. haha, no chance ) _________________ "Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole body and soul can be a true master.
