Do you or your Instructor/Dojo have any terminable, unforgivable rules? I understand that everyone has some rules for their class/students, but do you have any rules that will get a student permanently expelled from the class?

I imagine going to jail for beating a spouse, or some other serious offense would cause it, but that is fairly obvious.

I do think that if I actively trained in another MA school, I would get expelled from my current one.

Hurting sensei's daughter (a fellow student) during class drills, would not go over well.

A violent crime conviction of any sort would likely get one removed.

Deliberate and repeated disrespect of other students would be an issue for expulsion.

Sexual harrassment as well.

And following bushidoman, training in another style without asking sensei's blessing first would be a major insult and would lead perhaps to not being expelled, but certainly a much, much slower promotion rate.

With respect,

Sohan

Let me add the following:
Lack of self control, hurting people because of it, lack of judgement and becoming a liability to the dojo are all grounds for parting ways. It probably wont happen the first time (depending on the severity), but you don't need people who are detracting from the quality and safety of the school.

We had an instructor demoted back to red belt and he was a 4th degree because he came to judge a tournament drunk. He quit soon after.

I know that my sensei always warns his students about doing drugs and joining gangs. I think those would be grounds for expulsion

Seual harassment, purposely seeking out fights, harrasing younger/lesser ranking students.

Picking fights, or doing somebody harm without complete and valid justification is a rather big no-no.
