I was just wondering... we could make a big list of Katas for each style and see which ones matches up.

I know the followings:

Ashihara:

Soshinsha Sono Kata Sono Ich, Ni
Nihon No Kata Sono Ich, Ni
Kumite No Kata Sono ich
Someone else comes here hehehe


Goju Ryu

Heiki Sai dai Ich, Ni
Seipai
Seiunchin
Saifa
Kururunfa


...and I know a couple of shotokan

taikioku ich, ni

Empty Hand:
Taikyokyu Shodan, Nidan, Sandan
Empi
Heian Katas 1-5 (Pinan if you prefer)
Gojushihosho and Dai
Kanku Dai
Bassai Dai
Nijushiho
Tekki Shodan and Nidan
Karumpha
Seienchin Shitae
Geki Sai
Kururunfa (Shito Ryu variation)
Okaku Kata
And
Naifunchin


Kobudo:

Sueyoshi No Bo Sho
Sakugawa no bo Sho
Akamine no Jiwa
AnakO No Sai
Tsuke No Tuifa
Chatanyara no Sai
Karumpha No Jiwa
Bassai no Tekko
Matayoshi no Nunti Bo
Hamahiga no Tuifa
Matsugawa no Sai

I forgot about Bassai Dai.

that one is really beautiful, and for some particular reason, girls seem to be better at it hehehehehe.

Right now, I'm learning Seisan and Shi-ho-hai.

I've also studied the first three taikyoku, even though they aren't really chito-ryu kata. My sensei doesn't do the traditional chito-ryu lower Kyu kata.

I know Goju Ryu has a lot of katas in common with Chito Ryu...

Do you know more of them?

I love how, Chito Ryu, Shito Ryu, Shito Kai, Shukokai and Uechi Ryu have such similar katas, its wonderful haha.

And


yes girls do look better at the Bassai Dai Kata. I taught a girl this and I swear she looks better at it than I do...

I think WKF has some Katas to be known by all styles for high level dans. I'm not sure about it.

Im sure they also have electives as well. I know for Kajukenpo they make you learn 1-2 new katas from an outside style as an elective for every dan testing.

Wow... I didn't know that...

Well, as far as my experience goes (which it isn't that much) katas shitei are the ones for competition, and there is only a set of katas "allowed" by the WKF to be perfomed in competitions.

Yes I think Seienchin Shitae is the only one I know that si recognized by the WKF...and I dont have that down pat quite yet, its just a favorite of mine.
