Now, a lot of people use music to meditate to, or to ease them into that state. My question is what music do you use? My main instructor uses very mellow new age stuff, while my good friend uses this techno-rock kinda stuff. Oddly enough, I've decided I like the techno-y stuff better for meditating. Thoughts, preferences, additions, all are welcome.

I usually don't listen to any music when I meditate. When I do, the type of music I listen to depends on what I'm trying to accomplish. If I'm trying to pump myself up then techno or rock's the way to go. If I'm trying to calm myself, I listen to more mellow stuff. Usually there's no singing though.

I only use music if I can't get focussed properly.. I like Drone, house, drum&bass and some psychadelia, usually no words...

well it can be almost anything for me XD I've used all sorts of music to sort of "meditate" err >.>; maybe ..and focus on homework..

But I use mellow stuff that gradually changes from soft and slow to maybe a bit more speedy and up beat but still sort of the same concept. There's this great album that's like that I use "Crouching tiger, hideen dragon" or the other way around..for waking up in the morning, stretching and maybe i'll sneak in a little martial dance meditative training.. XD i don't know what else to call it but it wakes me up and always keeps me calm. Mostly to use in the morning but alright when it feels like one of those "lazy days" where the weather is calm and you just feel like lazing around the house.

Violins are great for me, flutes too and some drums in it's hard to explain..really wish i could give you a taste of the music

but when i'm just sitting out in the sun or something and want to meditate..i listen to the wind..no music is gunna replace that

*music is in most aspecs of my life so i got music for EVERYTHING XD

Defacto, SOME Mars Volta stuff, I've got a Jazz for meditiation cd as well, which isn't too bad... Sometimes (but rarely) Industrial... Sometimes use drones too!

I've tried different types of music. Some specifically for meditating which you can download on iTunes.

I find music that is slow and soothing good for meditating however some of it can also put you to sleep (the repetitive instrumental kind).

Personally, I love the sounds of rain, waterfalls, ocean waves and really most nature sounds to be good for me when I meditate.
