Street Fighter,
Crouching Tiger, along with anything else of the same OTT genre.
Essentially anything which looks way over the top with flashy moves every 2 seconds paints a bad stroke on the MAs
They may be entertaining, but there's no realism to them whatsoever. We're never going to learn to fly or walk on air are we? _________________ [b]Richard Gregory

What about Kung Phooey and Kung Fu Hustle? They're just as bad too! _________________ [b]Richard Gregory

Kung Fu Hustle was...odd. I thought the music baddies and the landlady's screech were cool though.
I'm just glad no-one has mentioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The cartoons and movies were so much fun. =;-} Or maybe those go on the good list- one with The Karate Kid on it. _________________ The best a man can hope for

Yes, Ninja turtles go so dumb. I still have the 1st movie from 94. I just watched with my friends and we all agree that there was little flashyness with their MA. They were like a cartoon jackie chan reptile butt-kicking group. And Splinter was a boss!
Don't knock the kung fu hustle. Stephen chow is funny. _________________ Destined To Bring Light |

How about They Call Me Bruce, and They Still Call Me Bruce?

Actually, I am not really particular abou MA movies that have flashy moves, air walking or crappy sounds. I have to defend Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon though, and perhaps many asian martial arts flicks. What I look at is the message within the movie (if there is any). You can't expect moviemakers not to exaggerate. After all, that's what makes the movies THE movies. It gives the viewer another reality, sometimes an escape from the realities of this world. If we were looking for real life representaions, then maybe National Geographic should be aired in Movie houses. That's why I always go for the message or theme of an MA movie, not its action, cinematography or martial arts choreography. =) Content first before form. _________________ The stronger swordsman does not always win. |
