In some schools you get a provisional belt and have to retest in 6 months or so. |

Either you earned it or not. Making you test agian really dosen't seem right. They should know your capabilities by now. |

I agree, but im sure a organiation would earn a couple extra dollars with excessive gradings. |

Maybe the school wanted to make some extra money from testing fees and such, by testing her(?) twice. _________________ "Blessed be the Lord my Rock, and my keen and firm Strength, Who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight." Psalm 144:1 |

Completely agree. If they are concerned about your technical ability/knowledge, they should have paid more attention the first time. If they are concerned about your personality, they should have paid more attention during your years of training.
Is there a valid reason for this that I seem to be missing? _________________ The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open. |

How big and thick are the boards that you need to break? How many techniques do you need to use? Any restrictions i.e. minimum number with foot techiques and a minimum number with hand techniques and the remainder using either?
I have heard of retesting in such a manner. I believe the rank translates to black belt in holding or something like that. My first instructor went through something like this in Japan. However, there was no charges for the next test. Is it necessary? Gee, I don't know. You are what you are when you get there. |

maybe they figure some people get their black belt and slack off. could be a test of character more than anything else.
dunno, just one idea for their side....
i do know some clubs have a junior black belt then you retest again once you reach the age that senior black belt has. in WTF its 16, but its not really a black belt, its called something else but i cant remember _________________ It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and I am NOT a big man.

In many styles of Karate you have shodan-ho which is basically to make sure that you don't quit right after you get your shodan. I can see how some would see this to make more $ but in the dojo I was at that did this you didn't pay anything more to get your shodan. What was funny to me was how one individual that I went to HS with quit right after getting his shodan-ho and told everyone at school that he was a shodan...I would go around and call him a shodan-HO! while emphasizing the HO because he quit
