Anytime you limit a weapon with a rule that one person has been accustom to using the other guy gains a huge advantage

Put the Grcies in a boxing ring? Put a point fighter in the K1? Put a kata champion in the UFC?

Rules change the game.

Question is do you only focus on one aspect and get really good at that given style or do you try and gain a general understanding of everything knowing you'll never master it all?

It is said that the one who understands the rules better than the others...wins. This is true for much anything, including the MA. The inevitable changes without permission, so, one has to learn to adapt faster than others...or be left behind.
