I have done Zendo Kai Karate before and am currently studying Goju-Ryu...

The different names of karate such as the two i have put forward are due to the different original teachers who named their style, so people would be able to know it was their style. There's no real difference in techniques.

A lot of the schools are very traditional and there is a very large amounr of kata to be learned from the traditional style... Karate is very good but i think one should crosstrain in Jujitsu if doing it.

Angus.

I am actually a person in Shito-Ryu Karate.
There are four main styles of Karate under the WKF umbrealla, Shito Ryu, Gojo Ryu, Wado Ryu, and Shotokan. They all have similarities and differences. Shito Ryu is very powerful and graceful. It has good sport fighting techniques. Gojo Ryu is very traditioinal and emphasizes on basics. Wado Ryu is very fluid in motions. Shotokan is very good for basics. It really depends on your teacher and what you want out of it. If you have any more questions, email me.

Yeah, my Goju Ryu is VERY traditional. We learn essentially the basics.

My instructor is a 7th degree master and head of Goju Ryu Australia (i'm pretty sure), and he's an awesome guy.

Angus.
