This week we spent a ton of time reviewing Prof. Akins material from last weekend. This revolved around defending choke and deadlocking attacks. As this is his material, I wanted to be respectful and not use it for our recap.
Luckily, before we defend these attacks we need to get familiar with the attacks themselves. Hence, this week's recap breaks down the attacks that we'd spend the week defending. Here is our take on the Guillotine Choke attack. My coach, Mike Budnik was in town this week and we sat down and went over not only the fundamentals of the attack, but he breaks down an advanced option.
Check it out:

So, how does everyone use the Guillotine in their game? Experience with the variant at all?
Discussion welcome! _________________ http://alphajiujitsu.com/

Another fantastic tutorial, Alex!! Always good to see Mike and you on the mat!!
I use the guillotine cautiously because the parameters aren't always there, and if ones not careful, the choke can be "turned-off" by a few simple movements. Yet, the opponent can't keep that profile for long because it invites other elements that won't favor my opponent: Patience, as in anything, needs to be meted out.
Yes, we use the option that Mike shown; another of my favorite, and that's because it, for us, is in the manner of Tuite.

I swear, Alex, you are a mind reader, because the kids had questions on this in club this week. The situation you showed first is how I've learned it, for use in or DT material. You and Mike both hit on some technical aspects that I wasn't aware of, and I really, really, appreciate that. I'm sharing it to the DT Club's FB page. _________________ www.haysgym.com
