Does anyone wear hakama pants when they practice kara-te? I use them sometimes to feel more authentic. Many people in Nippon use hakama pants when they practice their kara-te.
Do you wear anything else other then a standard karate gi at all?

In traditional karate we wear jsut the white gi . In the other more japanese arts such as kenjutsu and akijutsu (akido ) they use the hakama genarly it is not used in a karate class . Some Kobudo styels use the hakam as well but that is only after yudansh rank has been attained .

For those who've never seen one, imagine a loose, ground length pleated skirt. However, it's split up the middle, so there are actually two seperate legs like a pair of trousers... (sort of like trousers disguised as a skirt ) Generally a heavy dark material.
Wouldn't the most ultra-traditional and authentic karate training gear be one's underwear... good old 19th century boxer shorts and singlet top like the Okinawans were always wearing in those early home training photos?

Hakamas were widely used up until the past 80 -90 years. Until we re-wrote their constutuition making Japan more like the Americas.
