Perhaps you could inquire to your instructor if he might be willing to test you early?

There is actually a group of BB's testing in 2 weeks if I really wanted to go for it early. I think I'd prefer to have a bit more time to fine tune things though. My Chong Bong 6 form is not as crisp as I'd like and the breaks I'm up for are a bit challenging IMO. I've got to do a jump spin heel kick speed break, a round/hook combo (in one smooth motion), a jump 360 back kick through 3 boards, and then a series of "mystery breaks". Could be hands, could be feet, likely to be both and I'm sure I'll have to do a few of those while on my back.

Like I said though, I'm not in any real rush to test. I'd rather wait until I feel ready.

Wow thats alot of breaking. I'm a black belt and I doubt I could do half of those. Will these be to 1 inch 12x12 pine boards? You are the first person on here I have found that knows the Chung Bong forms. I am currently working on number 3...having some difficulty with the back kick for some odd reason...I can do it perfectly into a heavy bag or body shield but doing it in the air throws me way off.

All goes back to Jay Hyon. We actually do the Taeguk and Palgwe forms for testing purposes up until canidate where we require Chong Bong 6. The Chong Bong forms we do just to remember our heritage so I think I've only done #1,2,3,4, and 6. Of those, I really only remember 1,2, and 6. I've never even seen #7 perfored.

Love these forms though. They have so much more depth to them than the Taeguks and Palgwes.

Which forms do you guys do?

The Chung Bong set. However I beleive they are set further along than yours are. I just transferred to this school a few months ago so im still learning them. I think we need to get to Chung Bong 5 by black belt. Then we do the other 2? after that. At my old school we did a mix of Jhoon Rhee forms, Chang Hon forms (which was the first unified set) and Shotokan patterns. The school on Lyndale owned by GM Ro does it the same way you do...although I'm not sure they do the palgue. The do the Tae Geuk for like the first three belts...then they had in chung bong forms along the way. Chung Bong is strictly Song Moo Kwan so we are the only guys you will ever find that do them.

What about breaking requirements?

Wow, we've kinda strayed off topic...

At this school I have no idea what the breaking reqs are. And I have trouble with my feet so mine would probably have to be modified anyway. Hand breaks instead of some of the more dangerous foot breaks. At my old school all they required was a side kick to a single board. I believe its quite a bit harder here...but not sure. When I take my transfer test I will let you know. I'm a little worried about it myself to be honest with you.

When it comes to breaking just remember this little joke we like to use "The boards are already broken, they just don't know it yet". Keep that in mind and you'll do fine.

HA! found another one. This group scares the crap outta me though. The christian group they belong to is active on campus and extremely pushy about their beleifs, to the point of being invasive and insulting in my experience. More power to those that are into church and MA training, but it's just not my deal. Also, the part about being a "certified black belt school" and requireing a 4yr commitment send up warning flags for me.
