Sai - cheers mate. It must be something like that but so far I haven't been able to analyse where I've been going wrong, or if I thought I had got it I'd try again and - CLUNK! - even harder this time!!!
A helmet might be the answer until my arms get used to doing it properly again - it'll add to the boob-guard I currently wear when practising!! Believe me, clipping yourself on the nipple is no joke either! |

When doing katas, etc. it's best to grip the chuk as high as possible for better control. Low grips are for combat. |
And there was me thinking Kata was a rehearsal for combat.

Now come on Yoda be fair - its quite clear that monkeygirl doesn't know what she is talking about.
But anyway - or a more polite note...
MonkeyGirl, who taught you that in kata you should hold the nunchaku high? As Yoda said, kata is a rehearsal for combat - it seems to me that you might be practicing the so-called modern nunchaku-do (designed for show), instead the combat orientated style.
No offense meant (even though you have offended me )

Errrr uhhhhm if you need chest protection while working with the nunchaku you are very definately working with your elbow way too close to your body.

Try slowing down with the weapon. Buy a pair of padded chucks and practice with them. When you don't hit yourself anymore then move up to the wooden ones.

Cheers for the advice. I use padded chucks at the moment but still gave myself an almightily painful egg on the head with those when I did a bad swing! It's true though, it always happens just when you are getting a bit more confident and letting the chucks get faster but concomitantly getting more fatigued!
