ive definetly got the speed for it , since i am fast, but there maybe two problems,
first i feel i am not shot enough to be able to do it, one question, do you know like the people such as the korean tigers or the jackie chan , bruce lee a likes , they are normally short, arent they??, i am 5,10, but i feel my height should come at a advantage, i dunno maybe you grand masters can share some input on this topic,
second one is that i have got the fear factor drilled in me, is it possilbe to break your neck, i feel i might be a bit top heavy, but that can easily be stopped,
i hope what i said made sense

Ad, you're height isn't an issue.
My girlfriend taught me basic gymnastics when I was 26, and I'm taller than you. You also don't have the disadvantage of old, creaky bones!
But do be careful. It would be very advantageous if you knew somebody who had some gymastic knowledge, and if you have access to mats. |

OK - so you're going to do this. Then do it properly. At 14 years old safety is a MUST. Check this out - find a qualified club and go for it!

Yoda, knock off those comments. You almost made me spit coffee all over my computer screen.
I agree with the safety aspect. I'm about 6', and was able to do the front flip a few years ago. Never worked all the way up to back flip. Use a crash mat if possible. Start off with hand springs. Once you're good at those, you'll feel how if you just angle your jump a little higher and rotate a little faster, you'll be able to remove the hand spring. |

Make sure you warm up and stretch first when trying flips because it really takes it out on your knees. Remember for martial arts purposes land with your knees slightly bent.
Don't land in straight leg position as in gymnastics! Its one thing to learn how to fight but another to use your body to get out of the way....which is where flips come in handy...The kicks may lack any practicality in a fight but at least you will have the speed and power.
