Kicks are good, just need to make sure you don't kick above where your balance/speed will allow.
What kind of Kenpo do you study ThrowDown? |

A statement of a true martial artist, and the fact that you felt bad about having to use your training on someone just further proves that statement.
Good work. |

I agree with what someone said earlier. You REACTED to the way he ACTED toward you in that he attacked you to hit you & you defended yourself. If you were my relative I would hope you would have done exactly what you did.
Let's imagine what could have happened if he was successful in hitting you with say, a bat or if he had a knife? Don't be hard on yourself. I think your actions were justified.
I hope I never have to use the skills I learned but if I do, I hope I am quick enough to react like you did to save myself from a knuckle sandwich (or worse!) _________________ "Never argue with an idiot because they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." ~ Dilbert |

And what if the guy was a wrestler in HS? He'd have been able to keep you from throwing him.
Besides, it sounds like it was a long range attack that was coming at you. Judo is completely short range. _________________ Chikara

Tell me throwdown, if you had put the guy down after a throw, would you have been able to control him on the ground ?
If not, I think you have just done the right thing. Besides, putting somebody behind your back is too much risky I think. |
