I recently purchased a Golu Ryu Tape to practice with from panther martial arts and at the end of the tape there was a forty five minute section teaching self defense techniques for jan bo jutsu (short staff ) The staff is about 12" long and very useful. I was just wondering if anybody else here has heard of or even trained in this art.

I don't practice that art specifically. However the "short sticks" I've referred to in other posts are the same weapon. About 12" long and the same thickness as a long staff.

I think I know this weapon as the Hanbo - a short staff.

I use if for bunkai for the sai kata ni-cho-zai

There is a lot of information coming out now on the collapseable short staff or tanbo. And there are a lot of different versions of the tanbo or collapseable staff coming out.

It seems the tanbo is currently the "hottest new weapon" on the market.
