What does it look like, is it different from the chinese version does it mean the same thing?

To the best of my knowledge, they use the same symbol, but they call the forces In and Yo.

Yin and Yang, are used exactly the same by the Japanese as it is by everyone else. Its the central pillar to the Daoist/Taiost belief system.
