Shaoling Shaoling shaolin, ever tried coming down a mountain at 5:30 in the morning doing what looks like press ups. Shaolin do, at the age of 9!

Traditional Samurai training, Taiso, or body conditioning. I dont do this, but the Aikido teachers have. Those hard prickly tree combes throw at you until your skin bleeds, over time your skin hardens. Doing your strikes and stances against the flow of the rivers at the base of Mt Fujiama when the snow melts. Also taking strikes of Bo, jo, bokken etc..... nasty.

Take Care.

Ah, all sound very harsh but none can beat the way of the Iron Fly Swatter.
Sensei Sean grabs the fly swatter, raises it high above his head, and begins to emit a sound that would make grown men cry. Flies simply drop at the sound. Sensei begins to hunt like this, all the while screaming "YOU HAVE TO HIT THE FLIES AS FAST AND HARD AS POSSIBLE, THAT WAY IF YOU MISS, THE SHOCKWAVE WILL KILL 'EM!!!!! BBBBOOOFFFWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!"
Such screaming and contortions of the body are truly brutal....

This is my brother's fault. At the time we only had one Lil' Dragon enrolled in the class, and she didn't show up...so we had half an hour alone with my brother. It was towards the end of the summer and the dojo was being bombarded by flies.
Don't try this at home. It can be quite frightening, really

Any of the traditional martial arts or contemporary fighting self defense combat styles that incorporate "impact training" in their routine I would say IMO , are pretty brutal. (I know I wouldn't want to undergo any of those methods of brutal training)

Impact training is a series of physical exercises that condition your mind and body to withstand the trauma of kicks and blows. Impact training requires snapping impact and breaking impact to be administered to specific body parts, including the shoulders, back, chest, biceps, triceps, abdominals, thighs, and calves.

A snapping impact shocks the head or body but does not fully penetrate it. A snapping blow usually makes a brisk, sharp cracking sound when it connects with its target. In contrast, breaking impact shocks and moves the head or body. It can easily break or fracture bones because it follows through its target.
This has both physical and psychological purposes ... to prepare you to tolerate both types of impact in combat or on street.

Now maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about this can answer this question for me....does Kung Fu (or what other ma) has this type of training i.e. groin striking and being whacked severely across back and shoulders??

Yes I believe so.

From what I have heard from my friends that study Chi Kung, a similar sort of "impact" training occurs. Usually its with Hanbo's or Jo's and the person is struck across the chest, back of legs, back of neck and across the fore-arms. This is known as "iron body".

Ba Gua Master Wang Shu Jin could take full contact blows to the groin as he could ingest his testicals (hmm...nice )

Hope thats of some help Kick Chick.

Take Care

PS monkeygirl, may I suggest a can of Raid
