hey all,
i was reading the post in the kung fu section about the differenct fascinating facts about Bruce Lee, and that one of the facts was that he was walking with somebody on a beach, and a proper body builder walked past, and the somebody said to bruce lee, that isnt he strong, but bruce lee replied, yeah, but is he powerful,
i was always amazed how i saw people who look physically smaller and weaker than another person, yet they would still be able to beat them in arm wrestling, they could lift more in terms of weight, and generally be stronger, but i used to question this fact, how this possible??, how can somebody physically be not as big as another in terms of muscle, yet still be stronger,
i wondered if you guys could help me out on thsi one?, and views?, they would be most appreciated

This is an interesting one. If you build your biceps they won't help you in arm wrestling. The motion is not the same. You need to build the correct muscles to execute the correct moves. I hope that helps you.

Yea your right, you don't need to look strong. Some people can do immense physical feats but look like a poindexter...

It's all to do with how tight a muscle is too... There are plenty of blokes out there with loits of muscle on them but it it loose. U see the tight and wiry guys like bruce who could lift more than someone twice their weight and u just think "how do they do that"... I can't think of an analogy to put forth yet, but i will come back when i think of one...

Strength can come as much from muscle tightness and density as from size, apparently.
One of my friends looks way more strong than me, big sixpack arm muscles out everywhere, but, I can by out-military press him, do more situps and faster pushups. Its a bit of a puzzle really, but, I suppose someone knowledgable will explain this to us |

well muscle VS power it's interesting
you see well the size of you muscles are like to show off but the main idea it if you got those big muscles are you strong well some times people with little or okay can win but some can't it all depends

It is a matter of making the best use of what you have to work with. Learning to use what you have is a very difficult thing to do. But it is very important and a lifelife process.

i can see this topic really has generated some queries, recently i was just watching "worlds strongest man" the people on the show are tall and big, but if you look at there body, there isnt much muscular definition, and if compared to a , lets say a professional body builder, you would think the body builder would win strength, but its wrong
i would think that most of the "extra power" comes from determination and adrenaline, and the use of what you have, as mentioned b4,
sure everyone can build muscle
but can they use it effectively??

Power = Strength + Speed. The man Bruce Lee saw walking on the beach may be able to say lift a lot of weight, but if he doesn't have speed to go with his strength he isn't powerful. So he wouldn't be able to throw a ball far, or execute a powerful punch/kick. As you would think someone all built up could.
