Hello!

I'm looking to get myself a proper gi for future studying and training in Karate. I looked at the Tokaido Kata Master Pro and talked to the customer support who recommended me a size 180 cm, (size 6). I'm around 177 cm from head to feet. When I got the gi it felt overwhelmingly big. The sleeves almost cover my hands and the jacket cover my knees. The pants touch the floor and I have to pull the pants up to my ribcage to get them to fit properly. When fully dressed it feels very baggy and heavy. You get the idea.

So now I'm looking to return the gi and ask them to ship back a smaller size. But the question is should I go for the 175 cm or 170 cm model? It says the gi shrinks below 3% during wash. Not looking to ask their customer support again as last time they recommended me their biggest model for this particular gi.

Thanks!

It will shrink considerably after the first couple of washes. Definitely listen to what customer service is telling you as your inquiry is probably the most common that they have.
3% of 180cm, have you worked that out? 1%= 1.8cm x 3 = 5.4cm of shrinkage.
Depending on the cut if you go to 170cm for example, it might end up looking like a tank top on you. A big brand like Tokaido know what they are saying when it comes to sizing.....
Good luck either way!

Just thinking about it some more, my last good quality gi shrunk 18 cm in trouser length! Both the pants and the jacket were enormous straight out of the box. 2 years later, I am very happy with the jacket fit, but a little disappointed with how much the pants shrunk in length.
