Having mind like water.
Did Bruce Lee in his philosophy courses read
Funakoshi? Apparently, or do all great minds think alike?
This was a very nice commentery. |

It is an ancient philosophy taught by Bhuddism and Hinduism. It is a part of Eastern culture itself.

Cool karateka. In so many ways we want surroundings and events to fit us, not allowing ourselves to just flow along.
We do have much to learn from eastern philosophy. Sometimes I think I am drowning in the awesomeness of its simplicity. |

That is what I like about it. It is really simple. And yet, it is hard to find because you must counter act human nature. Some religious philosophies try to cut corners and say, well you can do this and its like doing this. I don't approve of that. Just get the job done perfectly. You will benefit in the end.

They don't need to write a book, they made Karate.

This is a great piece of information GoldDragon. Sadly this is a element that is missing from many schools today. It is a element of karate that I have had to seek out myself, as my original instructors only paid it lip service. Karate was taught as a series of physical movemnets, if you want any more read a book.
Now as a coach myself I include the philosophys of shotokan. To me without them then karate is like having a empty box. |

I have read most of these in several books. Gichin Funikoshi does a wonderful job talking about what karate is and is not.
I know we teach and practice a art of nonviolence however as Master Funikoshi said the Phillsolphy of Shotokan is ONE PUNCH ONE KILL.....
This does not mean go out and kill people but we teach and practice to end a fight quick. Shotokan is a great style IMO because we don't waste time on fancy moves.
The best defense is alwasy a good offense.....

Let me add.
My last post sounded like I was Hitler or something LOL.
I always start and end class with Master Funikoshi Dojo rules.
1. To seek prefection in character
2. To be sincere and honest
3. To practice courtesy
4. To show strong spirit
5. To control bad tempor
I use a lot of quote and saying from General George S. Patton and Vince Lambardi in my dojo. |

I guess you'll think I'm mean, but shouldn't we know this stuff? I saw many here quite amazed. Why? Dojo Kun, Ninju Kun, Mizo No Kokuro, Tsuki No Kokuro and the other philosophical stuff should be very familiar to a real karateka.
Now you hate me
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anybody, it was just a thought.
Thanks anyway to the one who made finger exercises writind this stuff down _________________ World Shotokan Karate |
