There must be all kinds of much better and meaningful ways to honour a foreign dignitary than handing out ranks and titles that have no value except to a select few people. If Putin has never practised TKD I wonder what the man thinks of being given an honourary rank. Perhaps it was just to thank him for promoting or supporting TKD in Russia or just because Putin is known to be a sportsman with an interest in martial arts in general.

Be fun to put all the "Honorary" BBs into a tournament amongst themselves. I'm guessing, but I imagine ole' Vlad would finish pretty high up the ladder........................

Interesting!
This brings to my mind the promotion of sensei Nakayama from 9th dan to 10th dan after his passing. I by all means believe he was deserving of the rank, but I've often wondered how he himself would have felt about such a promotion.

This happens quite a bit, especially with larger organizations, it seems. Its basically just a recognition. I don't worry about things like this too much.

I suppose that he wouldn't have liked it; appreciative of the honor, but not overly excited about it.

Hey, when former KGB President of Russia wants something, you give it to him! Remember THIS INCIDENT? Just give the guy his Dan, already! WTF HQ is way to close to Russia for comfort as it is!
