Greetings fellow seekers of knowledge,

I recently learned a couple of techniques that were based on the dragon, and snake styles....

This got me thinking, that I would be interested in knowing what is the martial art that came up with the animal styles?

I actually learned these in a kempo class.... but the animal styles are a chinese martial art, right?

thank you for sharing your knowledge with me.

I believe that most of the animal styles are related to styles of Kung Fu. I've not known of many other styles with animal names, but many styles do have techniques with animal-related names.

I practise a southern 5 animal kungfu system with patrick van steen people refer to it as Ng Ying Kungfu or also Ng Yin Kungfu. 80 to 90 % of the system is purely based on animals

The tiger is teaching claw hand techniques, Leopard half fist techniqies, crane bent hand techniques, snake open hand techniques, dragon finger claw and arm as wing techniques. many Chinese styles have animal skills but also indonesian arts like pencak silat. Some karate styles have tiger techniques and ninjutsu systems also like crane stance or whatever.

many traditional arts refer to animals i guess
