Yup. We were doing a little no-contact sparring last week and even I got a few hits in against one of the black belts. Everyone has their weaknesses, and sometimes even luck will get you through to them.

Power comes from proper techniques. It should happen that even if someone block your kick or punch, it going to hurt. In sparring, always be moving, its the only way to keep your opponent off guard.

If blocking hurts more than a slight sting then you're most likely trying to block power against power rather than deflecting the force of a blow.
