ok people how many of you use the spinning back fist?

me? well training and living in canada we dont use it because it is an illegal technique....i kinda favour this because the 2 or 3 times that i have fought in the states i have always gotten a black eye from my oponents elbows because they dont extend their arm all the way and second i think it is kinda a cheesy move

what do you people think?

I've used it in class, but never when sparring - no reason, just never thought of it as practical I guess. I think it's a pretty cool move to watch someone do if they're fast, but I've only ever used it on a target.

I've used it effectively a couple of times:

Attacker: Cross punch, Me: Front hand tap punch across my body and spinning back fist to his ear. Didn't knock him down but i dazed him. I've done that one a couple of times.

There was another one against a spinning kick, i copped a bit of a kick in the kneck but i swiped his nose with the spinning fist.

It's not my favourite move but it does have some good applications.

It's an effective surprise in a ring bout maybe once. I saw a guy use it at the Canadian San Shou Nationals, it was fairly effective, unfortunately he used it too much, and was Ko'd his next fight.

The backfist is underestimated by a lot of martial artists. The backfist if done correctly with a whipping motion, is always going to be faster than your fastest punch and can generate equivalent power. Try not to draw back your hand when you start the attack and do not move your shoulders. This is in line with the one inch punch principle where your entire body generates the power.

i dont think it is that great of a technique.......even when done properly

i have seen many good fighters get knocked out while using this because they forget to cover their chin with their shoulder and i have gotten a few cuts and black eyes from this technique cuz people keep jamming their elbow instead of their fist into me
